Company history
In 2008 a group of women identified a gaps in accessible provision of support for women. These particular women wished to be proactive, bringing in an income to the home whilst also ensuring a work life balance, creating a 'lifestyle' business opportunity for themselves.
We began by providing free Craft activities at events to engage other women and signposted them to vital services like Business Link and the local Community and Voluntary Sector Organisations that could assist them in their aims. This proved successful, women started business's in balloon artistry; card making and cake decorating, however, it was also discovered that some of the most ingenious ideas never made it to the 'business planning' meetings... the women did not feel confident enough, doubted both their skills and their ability to make the business ideas a reality, as they couldn't see what they were offering would 'make a million in a year' they gave up!
This is where WAHMI decided to go online, to bring together like minded individuals looking for the holistic support and friendly advice, cutting through the jargon ~ no question to silly, only support and encouragement offered. Since then we have grown rapidly, the project is now operating across London, with national network based activities taking place.
The ongoing challenge is to ensure that WAHMI services continue to match the needs of the user, whilst emphasising the importance of 'getting the legal bit of business right' and getting 'all the ducks in a row' we provide an innovative and responsive programme which genuinely address issues for some of the most isolated among us.
